Why blog?

“Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”
Acts 5:20

I got asked recently why I blog.  Well, there are several reasons as I look deeply at the question of why.  I can tell you though, it was an easy decision to do so!

First it was because there is barely any active Christian lesbian blogs.  I searched and searched and most I found are not kept up to date.  They are good resources, but I want fresh things to read.

Second, I love to write and share my experience.  I have lived a full life...why not share it!!!

Third, it helps others.  If just one thing I say in the blog helps another, then I have done my job.

Fourth, it helps me.  I get to learn more about the Bible and expand my own understanding.

Fifth, the most important reason is that God asks me to.  He says go out and tell about the good He has done in my life.  He says to serve Him and serve others!

So I blog, to be a service, help others, help self, and serve God.

Love not hate

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 5:43-48

Love not hate
by Lesley Hooper

The fear sets in, the reality is here.
The world is becoming a scary place.
So much hate, so much pain.
But Christ says, "Love not hate."

People being beaten because they are different.
People being abused where they should be safe.
People being threatened in their own communities.
But Christ says, "Love not hate."

You see the fear in peoples eyes,
Yet you see the hate in others.
You know there is a different way.
Christ says, "Love not hate."

Be the light among the darkness!
Be the peace of the storm!
Be the calm of the sea!
Be the love not hate!

In these uncertain times, we don't know what will happen.  Fear is real for many of us, but we can not let it rule us!  God has this and will take care of His children!  We can't stop others from being hateful and committing hate crimes, but we can direct our energy to give love!

Folks who are feeling unsafe right now, I'll be wearing a #safetypin. If you see me or others wearing the same, know that you are safe with me, with us, that I will speak out against hate, and do what I can to make the spaces around me safer for you, whether you are LGBTQIA+, disabled, non-white, non-male, non-Christian, or any other marginalized group. I see you. I stand with you.A safety pin is a simple thing. Anyone can wear one. They are easy to acquire. The UK managed it with Brexit, and we can help our fellow Americans feel safer in the same way: by indicating we are safe, and will speak out against hate. #stophate

Remember: this is not just an opinion. It is an act of solidarity. If you wear one, and you see something, be the voice. Be the change. Call that hate out. Video it for evidence. Offer support to the victim. Call the police. Shout for attention. Do. Something.

I will stand up for the right of others and be a safe place for people, will you?

Having Faith In Hard Times

“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered.

Mark 11:22

How easy it is to just say have faith!  But when life hits you, it is harder.  As many know right now my dad is in the hospital from a wreck.  I have found some days, my faith in God to get us through this is strong and other days very weak.  I think God knows that we are going to have those days though.  But yet He still requires us to have faith in Him.

I wish I could tell you the key to having faith, but I can tell you what has helped me.

One is prayer, no matter what pray!  Pray thanks for the good and bad.  Pray for others. Pray and tell on your struggles.  No matter what pray!

Second is get into the word of God!  If I know what God does for others from the Bible, then I know what He will do for me!

Third is get involved with others.  When life has me down, when I can't see what to do, and have to have faith, I help another.  I get off my doubts that way and helping another helps me.

Fourth is I ask for help from my church family.  We are not on this planet to be alone, if so God would put just one person on it at a time.  My church family prays with me, lifts me up, and sends encouragement.

Lastly, I remember that no matter what, I have no say in the matter.  It is God's will that will be done and I get to be there for it.  That even though there are hard times, they teach me to lean on Him and appreciate the good times.

I hope you get something out of this and please feel free to share things you do to keep the faith.
